The Black Solider Fly has fascinated me for some time now. My initial attraction to the fly was
because the larvae would decompose my organic kitchen waste to provide me with fluffy black
compost within a few weeks, ready to be used in the garden. Now, the very same insect has
been identified as a nutrient dense source of food and feed, for humans and animals alike. In
this journal entry, I reflect on the conversation I had with Bangalore's only commercial BSF
farmer and the potential of this insect as a future food.
